Welcome to Yoga Mamma!
You are at the right place if you are looking to do some yoga that is helpful and kind for you while you are pregnant. Well done for taking the time to care for yourself!
Yoga Mamma has been teaching mamma’s and mamma’s-to-be in Melbourne and Canberra since 2012. 100’s of women have joined Yoga Mamma over the years – a space for you to take time out, nourish yourself and reconnect to you and your baby.
When you join Yoga Mamma you will be practising self-care and keeping your body physically strong, breathing well and being mindful of your thoughts. You can take a deep breath and relax, knowing that you are giving your body, mind and baby the best opportunity of carrying the extra weight of pregnancy, birthing well and feeling more grounded during your pregnancy and beyond.
I endeavour to help you feel and be your best during pregnancy and beyond, by sharing what I know from practicing and teaching yoga over the years, particularly while pregnant with my two girls and how much better it can make you feel!
Congratulations on your pregnancy and enjoy this very short and magical time of growth, change and deeper knowing. I would love to hear from you either by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or phone on 0420 441 272 and I’m more than happy to take your call and discuss any queries or concerns you may have.
Yoga Mamma Sessions & Benefits
Yoga Mamma Prenatal Yoga suits women of all ages and fitness levels, in their second and third trimesters of pregnancy. The sessions follow a sequence of gentle poses that are stretching, strengthening and toning to help keep the body open and energised, in preparation for birth and beyond.
By doing the practices each week, you will learn techniques and tips to: reduce tension; feel more relaxed; alleviate fear; and think more clearly and be present, so you can make the right decisions for you and your baby when you need to. This will also help you to come to terms with your growing body and as the days get closer to your birth (natural or CS), to accept and feel less fear of the unknown and trust that your body and baby know what to do. Therefore, giving your body and baby the best opportunity to birth, recover and generate breast milk for your little one.
You will experience: improved flexibility; movement; posture; pelvic floor strength and relief from any symptoms of pregnancy such as aching backs, hips and shoulders. There is a misconception that doing yoga will make for an easier, natural birth. The thing is, that may or may not happen for many reasons. The greatest thing that yoga offers your experience of pregnancy and labour is to let go of any expectation of a perfect natural birth. Yoga has taught me that it is about accepting what you can’t control and breathing through the difficulties. This is why Yoga Mamma sessions do not encourage an intervention free birth and having a birth plan, as I believe that you will have the birth your body and baby are able to have and if you desire pain relief, then go for it. The real benefit is that I hope if women haven’t done yoga before or are not taking time out for themselves, it’s the beginning of doing that, looking after yourself and getting to know your body and self better.
This is in essence what Yoga Mamma is all about – self care and resilience. Resilience, meaning being able to adjust to changing circumstances without too much stress. As mothers, if we don’t embrace change and a lack of control, we will become stressed.
